We’ll email your planner and never share your details. The planner is a personal record, not a legally binding document — for that, you’ll need a valid Will.

Why a Will matters

Your planner guides them — your Will protects them

The planner is the map. Your Will is the legal instrument that decides who inherits what, who looks after your children, and who carries out your wishes. In New Zealand, if you die without a valid Will (“intestate”), the law — not you — decides how your estate is divided, and that can mean delays, extra cost and stress for your family.

A clear Will, kept alongside this planner, means your loved ones can act on your wishes with confidence instead of guesswork.

  • Decide who inherits your property and belongings
  • Appoint guardians for children under 18
  • Name the executor who’ll carry out your wishes
  • Reduce delays, disputes and unnecessary cost

The heart of your plan

Life cover is what makes the rest possible

A planner organises your wishes. Life insurance is what gives your family the means to carry them out — covering the mortgage, day-to-day living, your children’s future and the funeral, so they can grieve without financial pressure piling on top.

It’s the foundation almost every other plan rests on. If you haven’t reviewed your cover lately — or you’re not sure it’s enough — it’s worth a conversation.

  • Keeps the family home and pays off the mortgage
  • Replaces lost income so life can carry on
  • Covers funeral and final expenses
  • Leaves a legacy for the people who matter most

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Is the Life & Legacy Planner really free?

Yes. It’s a free download with no cost and no obligation. We created it to help Kiwi families get organised and to start helpful conversations about protecting the people you love.

Is the planner a legal document or a Will?

No. The planner is a personal record that helps your family find everything and understand your wishes. It is not legally binding. For your estate to be distributed the way you want, you still need a valid Will.

What happens in New Zealand if I die without a Will?

If you die without a valid Will you are said to die “intestate”, and the law decides how your estate is shared out rather than you. This can cause delays, extra cost and stress for your family, which is why having a current Will alongside this planner matters.

How does life insurance fit into all this?

Your planner and Will set out your wishes; life insurance provides the money to carry them out — covering the mortgage, living costs, children’s needs and the funeral. It’s the foundation most family plans rely on. You can check yours with the free Life Cover Scorecard above or talk to Jan.

Where should I keep my completed planner?

Somewhere safe that a trusted family member or executor knows about — for example with your important documents or your Will. Let at least one person know it exists and where to find it.
